The Canadian Federation of University Women Georgetown is going ahead with a candidates event prior to the provincial election.

"With overwhelming demand for an opportunity to meet the candidates, CFUW Georgetown will hold a meet & greet with those running in Wellington Halton Hills," said a statement from CFUW Georgetown.

The CFUW event will take place at the Hillsview Active Living Centre in Georgetown (318 Guelph St.) on Friday, Feb. 21 from 7-9 p.m.

Local residents will have an opportunity to meet the candidates who choose to attend, and each will have time to give a speech outlining their platform.

The CFUW, which traditionally hosts all-candidates debates before elections, had originally scheduled a debate for Feb. 12 at the John Elliott Theatre, but cancelled the event after PC candidate Joseph Racinsky declined their invitation.

"CFUW Georgetown had cancelled their long tradition of all-candidates debate when there were only three candidates," the group's statement said. "The PC candidate declined to participate while the two other candidates responded favourably, one in person and one only virtually."

Now with six candidates running to represent the riding, the CFUW is "inviting the public to a more intimate meet and greet to hear and express issues of local concern."
