Louise Brown is a dedicated volunteer driver for Cancer Assistance Halton Hills, whose kindness, resilience and selflessness has touched many lives in the community.
For over 25 years, Louise has been a reliable and compassionate driver, providing transportation to those undergoing cancer treatment.
With a heart full of generosity and commitment to helping others, Louise has become an integral part of the community's support network.
Louise is the epitome of selflessness whether it's a long drive to a treatment centre or offering a listening ear to someone in need, she is always there to lend a hand without hesitation.
Her willingness to help at a moment’s notice is something that the Cancer Assistance group and the people she serves deeply appreciate.
Inspired by Louise's generosity and tireless spirit, the Cancer Assistance team nominated her for a HaltonHillsToday Random Act of Kindness.
"Louise is so reliable and will help out in a second," shared Wendy Molnar, Transpiration Coordinator for Cancer Assistance. "She is an amazing volunteer for our community and she deserves this surprise so much."
Louise has had many people in her life affected by cancer and she and her husband have both faced tremendous personal losses.
Despite these challenges, they continue to be an inspiration, demonstrating incredible strength and resilience.
We decided to celebrate Louise's giving nature by surprising her with a Random Act of Kindness, arriving with gifts from our generous community partners.
Gifts included gift certificates to local businesses and a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers.
Louise was both touched and taken aback by the gesture.
"I was totally in shock, humbled and honoured to be chosen. There are so many people out there who are very deserving, not just me," shared Louise when discussing her Random Act of Kindness.
"I do this because I'm a retired nurse who has lost loved ones to cancer and I understand the struggles first-hand," Louise said. "But more than that, I do it to give back, to offer support to those who need it most during their toughest times. It's incredibly rewarding and along the way, I’ve gained some of the best friendships."
"I was brought up to always give back and Cancer Assistance is such a great program. I'm so grateful to be part of this amazing community and to be a member of that family," she expressed.
When asked about her plans for the future she shared, "I will continue to do this as long as I can. My husband, Paul, is so supportive. Whenever an emergency driver is needed, he always says, 'Just do it!'"
Louise went on to express the importance of her role.
"I’ve been driving for 25 years and before that, I drove for the Cancer Society. Now, I’m in my 29th year of service. It’s incredibly rewarding to be a comfort to people," she shared.
"I know some people have a lot of support, while others don't. The drivers are truly phenomenal in providing that support, offering not only a helping hand but someone you can talk to openly, with a shared experience," said Louise.
A big thank you to our co-sponsors Downtown Spa & Relaxation Centre, FOLIAGE, Procuts Haircare and Fendley Florist for making this Random Act of Kindness possible.
