Position Overview:
The goal of the Education Liaison Worker is to improve educational outcomes for children and youth receiving services from Child Welfare services. The Education Liaison Worker will coordinate educational supports and provide culturally responsive system navigation support for eligible children and youth. The Education Liaison will help to resolve issues that impact eligible children and youth’s learning and strengthen relationships among Child Welfare, public school boards, First Nations school authorities and community partners in order to improve educational outcomes of eligible children and youth.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A minimum Native Child and Family Services or Social Service Worker Diploma is required
A four-year HBSW or Bachelor of Education Degree is preferred
A minimum of two years’ experience in working with Anishinabek children, youth, individuals and families
A minimum of two years’ experience in working with the education system including day elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools
Preferably Child Welfare experience
Experience in Case Management and/or Consultative Services would be an asset
Candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualification to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered
Satisfactory Criminal Records Search; including a Vulnerable Sector Search
A valid Standard First Aid/CPR with a level “C” Certificate is recommended
Work flexible hours, according to the needs of families
Travel within the city of Thunder Bay
Work in the homes and locations familiar to client families
Must possess a Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a reliable personal vehicle
Hours of Work: 32.5 per week
