We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm at the Acton Town Hall Center, 19 Willow Street. We welcome anyone to come join us, just send an email to [email protected].
We are your community club. We are a volunteer group of local women and men working hard to keep the small town community spirit alive in Acton and Rockwood. Our role is simple; we are a catalyst and a facilitator… to help members of our community make it better.
We have a long history in this small town. Over the years we have created a park, helped build a bandshell, and raised $50,000 for the renewal of the Town Hall. We’ve hosted community BBQs, Gala Dinners, Wine and Cheese events, and the occasional Scavenger Hunt. We organize the Trunk Sale every weekend during the summer. Every year we celebrate the Citizen of the Year by organizing an award dinner. We serve at the Seniors’ dinner, and we help distribute Christmas hampers. Together with our neighbouring service clubs we provided financial support for an intensive youth worker in Acton. We sponsor local youth sports teams and clubs. We send four deserving young children on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Disneyworld each year through Dreams Take Flight. We send one high school student to Ottawa each year to learn about government, citizenship, and our great country with over 200 other students from across Canada. We support students through scholarships and by distributing dictionaries. We send local students on adventure canoe trips to learn about indigenous culture, leading to greater understanding and reconciliation. We help feed people in our town by donating to Food4Kids and the local Food Banks. Occasionally we make the world aware of our small town by participating in international projects in developing countries. And we are always open to finding new way to support our community.
We have three strategic areas of focus:
Support our Kids: Our goal is to make sure that children in our community have the resources they need when things get tough. From supporting the local Youth Center and counselling resources, to simply making sure that kids have food on the table, our focus is here.
Community Engagement: Far too often there are people in our area that are facing very difficult times. Our goal is to facilitate the involvement of the community to help out our neighbours when we can, through fundraising or group activities as necessary.
Beyond our Town: We will often participate in international projects on behalf of Acton & Rockwood. Through various grants and support from Rotary International, we can make our local investment grow significantly and change lives.
We are a small and energetic team – but we cannot do this alone. We are always looking for new members to come and join us. We thank our community for your support at our events and fundraisers.
