Following the announcement of the upcoming Hide House closure, HaltonHillsToday received the following Letter to the Editor from Matthew Galliford of the Downtown Acton BIA.
Dear Editor,
Retail shoppers received unfortunate news recently about the closing of The Olde Hide House in Acton, Ont. It was announced that the store would be starting a liquidation sale immediately and closing their doors for good in 2025.
Though the Olde Hide House business and the historic building have been landmarks of Acton and the Halton Hills community, it does not signal the end tourism and business for downtown Acton. Just steps away from the Olde Hide House is a thriving downtown business area that boasts 106 locally-owned shops, services and restaurants to treat, tempt and serve all who visit.
Treat yourself to a spa day, a fresh new hair style, imported goods and foodstuffs, printing and courier services, health and wellness foods and merchandise, everyday essentials, gifts and groceries.
Professional services include optical, dental, medical clinics and other physical and psychological practitioners. You’ll also find home renovation, lawyers, accountants, music and performing arts lessons, guitar tuning, automotive sales and services, master tailoring, laundromats, real estate and banking downtown.
This same area also hosts quick service food, sandwich and pizza offerings. Casual dining includes authentic Mexican, Indian, sushi and Greek foods, as well as family restaurants, pubs, a diner and a bar and grill!
Downtown Acton is also proud of our hidden gem, Prospect Park. It's a stunning community park featuring three baseball diamonds, indoor soccer, tennis and pickleball courts, accessible-friendly playground and boat launch, fishing and a bandshell. Prospect Park is surrounded on three sides by idyllic Fairy Lake, a beautiful place to kayak, canoe and small boat.
Visit us, drive or take the GO Train to see all that downtown Acton has to offer - all within a short walking distance.
If the closure of the Olde Hide House make you wonder if it is still worth the drive to Acton, then you have never really visited Acton. As we say downtown, Shop, Eat & Play Local – It’s Worth the Drive!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
