The Globe Productions team has been rehearsing A Christmas Carol since September.

Globe Productions is bringing a classic Christmas story to life on the local stage.

The Georgetown theatre company is set to deliver A Christmas Carol - the Musical, based on the story by Charles Dickens, at the John Elliott Theatre this weekend and next.

The show will tell the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge - played by Globe president Mark Llewellyn -  who snubs the magic of Christmas and philanthropy until he’s forced to confront his selfish ways.

With the help of three ghosts who take him through his past, present and future, Scrooge’s eyes are opened to his faults and he changes his ways, then spending Christmas reconnecting and sharing love with those who mean the most to him.

“It's got all the love and the joy, and all the fun and the warmhearted feeling you would expect of the story of a Christmas Carol,” said Llewellyn of the local production.

The show also has a “Disney-esque feel,” he added, as it features music created by Alan Menken, a composer best known for his songs used by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

The Globe team has been rehearsing the show since September and has put in “an incredible amount of work” both on stage and behind the scenes, said Llewellyn.

“Our production is full of colour, and smoke when the ghosts are coming, which adds a bit of visual excitement as well,” he noted.

The show will run tonight, tomorrow and Dec. 1 to 3 at 8 p.m., with matinees on Dec. 3 and 4 at 2 p.m. (Nov. 27 matinee is sold out).
