Community raises tens of thousands at Terry Fox Run in Acton and Georgetown

Local residents hit the tracks in both towns this morning to do their part in finding a cure for cancer

The community did Terry Fox proud Sunday morning with its two charity runs in support of cancer research.

The first Terry Fox Run got underway bright and early at the Acton District School track with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Citizen of the Year Rick Bonnette.

Meanwhile, the Georgetown installment of the run kicked off at 9:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds with a land acknowledgement and O Canada performed by local children, and some words from Mayor Ann Lawlor.

While totals were still being tallied at press time, both the Georgetown and Acton events are well on their way to meeting their fundraising goals of $20,000 and $25,000 respectively.
