Contestant from Erin on Amazing Race Canada has no regrets after elimination

Born with achondroplasia dwarfism, John Ferguson’s goal on the TV series was to show what little people are capable of doing

A best friend duo with a local connection have no regrets about their experience on The Amazing Race Canada as their time on the show came to an end in the most recent episode.

John Ferguson from Erin and Connor Carroll of Pickering were the third team to be eliminated from the 10th season of The Amazing Race Canada in a leg that saw teams racing through the Okanagan Valley in southern British Columbia.

“I’m really happy about how Connor and I performed in the race. I feel like we honestly made it quite far for how challenging every leg really was physically and mentally,” Ferguson said in an interview with Carroll. “I don’t really regret anything from what happened. I’m very proud of each of us.”

Carroll said it’s a win just to be on the show and was happy to strengthen the bond he has with Ferguson.

“My favourite part was just getting to make another lifelong memory with John and meeting all the amazing contestants and people out there,” Carroll said. “Seeing a good chunk of Canada was incredible. B.C. is so beautiful - I had no idea.”

Carroll also mentioned seeing Ferguson rappel down the side of Niagara Falls was “pretty wild” and was jealous he got to do that in episode one.

“I would say that was my least favourite day on the race, having to face my fear of heights,” Ferguson said, explaining with roadblock challenges they have to pick who is doing the challenge before fully knowing what it is.

Starting at the back of the pack on their last leg of the race, Carroll and Ferguson weren’t able to catch back up.

They said they knew their time was likely getting cut short when they struggled for hours with a challenge that had them running back-and-forth to recreate an exact replica of what was on a clothing line on opposite ends of a vineyard.

“Once we had issues with folding laundry, that’s when it hit me that we probably are leaving this place early,” Ferguson said.

“I’m never doing laundry again,” Carroll added.

Born with achondroplasia dwarfism, Ferguson’s goal going on The Amazing Race Canada was to show what little people are capable of doing. He said he felt he represented them well.

“The messages I receive from my fellow little people friends, all of them even from the first episode airing have been incredibly supportive and proud,” Ferguson said.

“It’s even crazy to think that they’re looking at me as an inspiration, whereas I’ve always looked at all them as my inspiration… It’s honestly just really humbling.”

Ferguson encouraged people to keep watching this season of The Amazing Race Canada, even if he and Carroll are no longer on it.

“Although your favourites are off of it, it’ll be an incredible rest of the season,” Ferguson said. “Everyone else on there, they are incredible humans and they are very entertaining as well. Continue watching because I will be as well.”
