Cruise Night will be returning to Georgetown under new management on June 9.
Though former owners, the Farrugias, passed the torch to Grammie's Recycling Store, the venue will remain the same. There'll be a wide array of classic cars and music at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex parking lot every Friday starting at 4:30 p.m. during the warmer months.
Those looking to put their cars on display can simply show up - no need to register in advance or contact the organizers. Classic vehicles, excluding motorcycles, must meet the criteria of being 30 years or older to be eligible. There's no limit to how many people can take part.
The beneficiary of the weekly charity event has changed this year. Proceeds from a silent auction and grab bags will be given to local students learning to be car mechanics at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School and Georgetown District High School.
“Cars need mechanics," noted Grammie's owner Pat Bonozew. "There are kids in the mechanics courses at the two schools."
Up to three exceptional students will be selected between the schools, which teachers will flag for Grammie's. While the local business is being tight-lipped about whom, some students have been picked.
Winners will be announced in September.
