The Georgetown Farmers' Market returns to Main Street Saturday.

The Georgetown Farmers' Market is back for another season, starting this Saturday.

Located on Main Street South between James and Church streets as well as in the municipal parking lot at Church and Main, the market opens at 8 a.m. and continues until 12:30 p.m. Saturday’s opening day will also feature bagpipers and highland dancers who will be competing at the Georgetown Highland Games on June 8 at the Georgetown Fairgrounds.

There will be more than 80 vendors. In addition to local farms offering fruits and vegetables, there will be merchants selling hot sauce, lemonade, popcorn, pizza, baked goods, dog treats and crafts.

“We have a wide variety of vendors,” said Downtown Georgetown BIA director Maureen Turner, “plus a whole street of cool stores, cafes and restaurants.”

Turner said the farmers' market is important to those local businesses.

“It’s huge. It brings in so much foot traffic,” she said. “And it’s great exposure, which is beneficial to the businesses downtown.”

There are two special days planned in the next month. June 15 will be Bike It to the Market Day, where residents will be encouraged to ride to the market, and can enjoy a pancake breakfast upon arrival. The municipal parking lot will be converted to a bike parking lot and volunteers will be on hand to watch over the bikes while you shop.

That will be followed by a Pride Market on June 22, where visitors are encouraged to wear their pride colours.

There will be other themed days announced throughout the season, which ends Oct. 12.

In addition to the Georgetown Farmers' Market every Saturday, the Downtown Georgetown BIA has other events coming in the months ahead, including Downtownapalooza on July 12 and the Rock'n Roll'n Classics Car Show on Aug. 23.
