Acton is keeping Halton Hills' reputation of being Canada’s most patriotic town alive.
Flags have popped up throughout the downtown core in preparation for Canada Day. Light poles, shop windows and the war memorial are all decorated, while a flag festoon hangs prominently across Mill Street.
"The flag tradition goes back roughly a dozen years," said Alex Hilson of the Acton BIA. "This year, the BIA had new flags made by our own Zina Pallister from Concept Leather Company in downtown Acton. Halton Hills Electrical installed the flags."
On Canada Day, the Acton Legion will kick off its celebration at 3 p.m. The BIA is hosting a Canada Day in the Park event at Prospect Park between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. with cake, hot dogs, a colouring contest and music.
Then the Acton Firefighters Association will run its renowned fireworks over Fairy Lake starting at dusk, with donations being collected at the gate to support the cost of the show.
"After a couple years without events, they (the Firefighters Association) are particularly looking for financial support, so we should all do our part to keep the tradition alive," said Hilson.
Patriotic celebrations will also take place throughout the day in Glen Williams at the traditional Canada Day in the Glen event, including the popular parade, duck race, children's activities and much more.
