Calling all local puzzle solvers, and those who enjoy a good night out on the town.

Georgetown community theatre group Globe Productions is bringing the Charles Dickens work The Mystery of Edwin Drood to the John Elliott Theatre. The story begins the way many plays do.

With a murder.

This whodunit musical comedy kicks off with the killing of the titular Edwin Drood.

But this is no ordinary murder mystery. Dickens died in 1870 before the story could be completed, so no one knows who the author intended as the culprit. This gap in storytelling presents Globe Productions with an opening for audience interaction.

At the given moment, the spectators will be able to vote on who they think did it. Once enough votes are collected, the chosen cast member will come forward and perform a “confession song.”

“There are enough clues that any of them would be a reasonable suspect,” President of Globe Productions Mark Llewellyn told HaltonHillsToday. “Those actors have to be ready on any given night to know their song.”

Evening performances start at 8 p.m. and are on Nov. 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30. Matinees are on Nov. 24 and Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.

Musical theatre lovers can buy tickets to the play on the John Elliott Theatre’s website or in person at the Cultural Centre.
