The Town of Halton Hills has appointed Paul Damaso as its new commissioner for recreation and parks following Warren Harris' retirement.
Outgoing commissioner Harris announced his plans to retire following 24 years of service.
Harris started with the municipality as the manager of parks and open spaces from 1999 to 2015.
He was then appointed as interim commissioner and later moved into the position permanently the following year.
In a press release, the Town said Harris brought elements of design and project management to a broad range of projects.
“It is with mixed feelings that I wish Warren well on his retirement," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “For the over two decades that I have known him, he has always been a true professional.”
Damaso will start his post as commissioner on June 13. Having worked for the City of Mississauga for 17 years, he led large teams, completed a master plan and developed public spaces.
During his most recent role as director of Mississauga's culture division, he provided oversight of key venues, program and service delivery, grants, community development, culture and heritage planning.
“I know that (Damaso) will have a lot to contribute given the extent and diversity of his former work portfolio," said Halton Hills CAO Chris Mills.
