The Halton Hills Interfaith Community plans to give local residents spiritual nourishment through several performances at the John Elliott Theatre this weekend.

On Sunday (Sept. 29), Faith Inspired Culture will bring several religions to the 9 Church St. stage to celebrate their unity. Those from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh and Baháʼí backgrounds will show how faith influences culture.

“The main thing I want to see, and what we all want to see, is how all the faiths work together,” said Rev. Cheryl Barker, who heads the planning committee for the event. The leader of the St. George’s Anglican Church’s flock wants to dispel beliefs about inter-communal tension and to express the reality that “we do all get along.”

“We just maybe have different expressions of how we have faith,” she elaborated.

Details are being ironed out, however on-stage acts will include music, dance and poetry. A Muslim poet will recite spoken word poetry and a Hindu dance troupe hope to dazzle the audience with their moves.

St. John’s United Church organist Chris Dawes will be one of the performers, as well as Brett Smith of the band Smith & Dragoman, a Baháʼí-inspired group. Councillor Alex Hilson, who has trained for the priesthood, will also be serenading the audience.

The performances will kick off at 1:30 p.m. at the John Elliott Theatre.

Audience members can come as they are as the gathering is free.
