The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is currently accepting applications for its 10-week Police Ethnic and Cultural Education Youth Leadership Program (PEACE).
According to the local force, PEACE students work closely with members of the HRPS to improve their cultural proficiency, communication and leadership skills.
The next in-person session will begin September 12 and run once a week at police headquarters in Oakville. Applications are being accepted until August 8 at 4 p.m.
To be considered for the program, candidates must:
- Have an interest in policing and diversity
- Be a registered high school student in Halton in good standing
- Reside in Halton Region
- Pass reference, employment and criminal background checks
- Be willing to obtain six hours of recognized community work outside program hours.
Those who take part will participate in several activities covering topics such as: a day in the life of a police officer, leadership and planning for your future, Black history education, Indigenous awareness and more.
