A Tuesday night (Nov. 26) barn fire in rural Milton has led to the discovery of what police believe is a chop shop.

At about 11:40 p.m. police responded to a fire at a large rural property on No. 20 Side Road, east of Sixth Line in Nassagaweya.

The fire was contained to a barn, which was fully engulfed in flames at the time of arrival. Milton firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and no one was found on the property and no injuries were reported to police.

The fire has been deemed to be suspicious and is being investigated by the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau.

On Wednesday, investigators executed a search warrant on the property and located the dissembled parts to eight stolen vehicles. These vehicles were stolen out of Peel, Waterloo and Niagara regions, as well as a vehicle from Quebec and one from Manitoba.

The property was allegedly being used to disassemble motor vehicles, in a fashion commonly referred to as a ‘Chop Shop’.

Police have not made any arrests in relation to this investigation and are seeking the public’s assistance.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2416.
