The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is looking for a new member of its audit committee for a three-year term beginning April 1.
The board says the ideal candidate has knowledge in finances and business, "embraces an equitable, multicultural and inclusive environment" and is willing to "make a lasting contribution to the board."
The main role of the audit committee is to help the board of trustees to carry out its roles in governance and oversight.
The audit committee is responsible for:
- Financial reporting process
- Internal control framework
- Risk management practices
- Performance and function of the board’s internal and external auditors
- The board’s compliance with its obligations under legislation.
The committee is comprised of three trustees and two independent members drawn from the community at large. It meets at least three times a year, plus ad hoc meetings as required.
Meetings take place at the J.W. Singleton Education Centre in Burlington beginning at 2 p.m., and select meetings may also take place in a virtual format.
Eligibility criteria includes:

Applicants must have sufficient accounting, senior financial management or other relevant business experience to understand public sector accounting and auditing standards

Applicants must not be a current employee or officer of the board or of any other district school board or school authority

Applicant must not have a parent, child or spouse currently employed by the board.
