The Halton District School Board’s (HDSB) Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) will be hosting the annual Parent Involvement Committee Conference on Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Elsie MacGill Secondary School (1410 Bronte St. S., Milton).
The theme of the conference is Getting Connected. Registration is open to HDSB parents/guardians and community members, and can be completed through the HDSB 2025 PIC Conference registration form by Jan. 24.
This year’s conference features keynote speaker Dr. Alex Russell, Ph.D., C.Psych., Clinical Psychologist and author of Drop the Worry Ball: How to Parent in the Age of Entitlement. Dr. Russell will speak about the role that experiencing failure plays in childhood development, emphasizing how these challenges are a normal part of growing up and are essential for children to develop into resilient, resourceful and emotionally balanced individuals. Through his insights, attendees will gain valuable perspectives on how families can nurture children to overcome difficulties and thrive as they grow.
Following the keynote address, the 2025 PIC Conference will provide engaging and practical workshops for parents/guardians on topics including mental health, artificial intelligence, preparing and planning for post-secondary programs, early literacy skills, innovative school program options and much more.
Child minding is provided at no cost for kindergarten-aged children up to 12 years old. Morning refreshments and lunch are also provided. Transportation may be available for attendees who require it to travel from various areas within Halton to the conference. For more information, and to register for the conference, visit the PIC Conference webpage on the HDSB website (hdsb.ca).
"We’re thrilled to bring the 2025 Parent Involvement Committee Conference to the Halton community, offering a unique opportunity for families and educators to come together in support of our children’s growth and success," says Curtis Ennis, director of Education for the Halton District School Board.
"This event offers a great opportunity for community members to share ideas and learn from one another. By focusing on the theme of Getting Connected, we aim to strengthen the partnership between families and schools, building a supportive network that empowers children to grow, overcome challenges and thrive in all areas of their lives."
