Halton Hills staff is recommending 11 new Community Safety Zones (CSZ) in Acton, Glen Williams and Georgetown.
A CSZ is a stretch of road of particular concern that requires enhanced traffic safety measures. These can include areas where there is a school, park or seniors’ centres.
A report brought forward by municipal staff at Monday’s (Aug. 28) Halton Hills Council meeting lays out where the new CSZs will go:
- Acton Boulevard from Peel Street to Norman Avenue
- Acton: Queen Street from Eastern Avenue to Churchill Road
- Georgetown: Princess Anne Drive between Charles Street and Grey Owl Run
- Georgetown: Charles Street between Princess Anne Drive and Maple Avenue
- Georgetown: Weber Drive between Delrex Boulevard and Sims Gate
- Georgetown: Rexway Drive from Delrex Boulevard to Shelley Street
- Georgetown: Sinclair Avenue from Mountainview Road South to Duncan Drive
- Georgetown: Argyll Road from Eighth Line to Barber Drive
- Georgetown: Barber Drive between Argyll and Danby roads
- Glen Williams: Main Street from Confederation to Prince streets
- Glen Williams: Main Street from Mountain to Prince streets.
Town staff anticipate signage will be installed later this year.
Part and parcel of the Community Safety Zone is the use of automated speed enforcement (ASE) with a mobile unit that would be rotated throughout each of the zones.
Earlier this year, staff told council that delays with the vendor and several government agencies will push the use of the ASE to next year. It was originally supposed to come online in July.
Councillor Clark Somerville asked staff for an update on the situation. Traffic Coordinator Matt Roj said the delays are with provincial ministries, the Joint Processing Centre and the vendor.
“On our end, we are implementing the Community Safety Zones. Anything that is within our hands, we’re making it happen this year,” Roj told council.
