Inaugural event at police headquarters drew dozens of participants

Halton Police held its inaugural polar plunge event in support of Special Olympics Ontario Wednesday afternoon.

Over 60 participants - some donning costumes - took turns freezing for the cause, including all three deputy chiefs and Halton tactical paramedics. Participants jumped into a large outdoor cold-water tank set up in the parking lot at Halton Regional Police headquarters in Oakville.

The event surpassed its goal of raising $10,000, with over $13,000 contributed by the start of the plunge and still growing. The funds raised will benefit Special Olympics Ontario, which delivers programming and events to over 23,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across the province.
