The Georgetown Hospital Foundation has surpassed its fundraising goal for new equipment, thanks to local residents.
Hundreds laced up their sneakers for the 16th annual Walk or Run for Georgetown Hospital this morning (Sept. 29).
At publication time, the fundraising total from the event sat at just over $94,500, exceeding the $90,000 target for a new mammogram machine with advanced technology that will increase accuracy and chances of early detection, provide faster results and expand the capacity to screen more patients for the local hospital.
In addition to the usual three-kilometre and five-kilometre routes that start and finish at the Gellert Community Centre, a one-kilometre route was added this year.
Each participant received a T-shirt, goodie bag and pre-race and post-race refreshments.
