The countdown is on for the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser walk in Halton Hills.
The event, which has a goal of raising $50,000 to benefit Links2Care and the Georgetown Bread Basket, is set to take place on Saturday (Feb. 24), starting and ending at Norval United Church. Participants can check in beginning at 4 p.m. and the walk will start at 5 p.m. A light meal will be served at 6 p.m.
Walkers can choose from either a two-km or five-km route, with a rest stop at the halfway mark of the longer route.
The Rotary Club of Acton is hosting a second route in Acton from 5 to 7 p.m. for those who prefer to walk closer to home in that community, starting and ending at Links2Care's Acton hub. Participants are also welcome to complete their efforts offsite with their own favourite route.
Money raised at the event will be shared between the two charitable organizations to support local residents struggling with hunger, housing and health issues.
So far, over 180 participants have registered for the local walk on 30 teams, with 44 people signed up to volunteer.
