One of Norval’s favourite daughters, author Lucy Maud Montgomery, was born Nov. 30 - a century and a half ago.
The hamlet is celebrating the anniversary with holiday merriment by throwing its Montgomery Christmas Sale on the same day.
The event being held at two local churches on Saturday marks the culmination of months of festivities leading up to Maud’s birthday.
St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Norval will welcome shoppers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to the sale, Janet Wilson, author of Maud of Anne of Green Gables, will be at the Norval church to do a signing of her book, which was released just last year.
Meanwhile, nearby St. Elias The Prophet Ukrainian Church in Brampton (10193 Heritage Rd.) is also hosting its market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring Ukrainian-style food and deli meats, a gourmet cookie bar and a traditional Ukrainian hot meal for lunch - soup, kobaska (sausage), kapusta (cabbage), varenyky (perogies) and a cabbage roll or two.
The Norval Studios and Gallery is even getting in on the fun on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a large assortment of original paintings, cards, hand-woven scarves, mitts, towels, runners, placemats, pottery, stained glass and many more artisan treasures.
