Dr. Methila Narayanamoorthy will be heading CARE.

Acton’s big appointment with a new chiropractor is just weeks away as Dr. Methila Narayanamoorthy is about to start practising in town.

Her clinic, Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Excellence (CARE), will be throwing its doors open to the public on Aug. 3 at 25 Main St. N. - the site of the former De Melo Chiropractic & Wellness Centre.

“Being a small-town chiropractor has always been my dream,” Narayanamoorthy said. “I find it so peaceful here [Acton]. I love the fact that everyone knows each other.”

The recent chiropractic school grad is taking the plunge and going straight into private practice rather than working for someone else.

She's also keen to dispel misconceptions about the chiropractic profession. Many people mistakenly believe that care providers like Narayanamoorthy are concerned with the spine and nothing else.

The vertebrae certainly is an area of focus, however, there's much overlap between chiropractors and physiotherapists and what they do. Because of this she is able to treat other parts of the body as well.

Therapeutic ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and soft tissue therapy are just some of the methods on the clinic’s roster.

And, of course, Narayanamoorthy can perform spinal adjustments - perhaps the most common service patients go to chiropractors for.

Direct billing is not available yet, but that's something that she will provide in the near future.

She comes highly recommended by her mentor, Dr. Natalia Lyshchyna, who also represents Ward 6 on Oakville Council. Narayanamoorthy interned under her in Oakville, giving the teacher a good idea of her student's merits.

“Bedside manner is a very important skill for future doctors to have. One thing I noticed with Methila is that she is very good with patients right from when they walk into a clinic,” Lyshchyna said.

She believes that “all healthcare providers want to help people” and that Narayanamoorthy is not an exception. “She really is a caring person.”

A grand opening for the new clinic will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 3 p.m. at the 25 Main St. N. location. Catering will be provided by local Indian restaurant, The Clay Oven.
