Heather’s Bakery Cafe patrons may have noticed some subtle differences around their favourite hangout and have definitely seen some new faces behind the counter.
When Heather Brownridge, founder of the bakery that shares her name, left Georgetown to move up north in June, she left her business in the capable hands of Kazem Nadalizadeh, his daughter Baran, her aunt Sara Farzin and family friend Omid Noorbakhash. They have promised to honour Heather’s work while putting their own touches on the downtown Georgetown shop.
“We cannot say there have been changes, but we have added things for sure,” Farzin told HaltonHillsToday.
One of the biggest additions was to the schedule, with Heather’s now being open seven days a week.
Added days require a larger menu and the Iranian-Canadian family from Oakville has seen to that. They added smoothies, including green blends, mixed berries and even ones that might not be on the menu.
“We can make any variation, to be honest, with the ingredients that we have. I had a customer today who wanted a banana and strawberry smoothie. We made it, even though it's not on the menu,” Baran Nadalizadeh said.
New types of hot and cold drinks like lattes – chai, pumpkin spice and others – frappes, frappuccinos, cold brews and many more have also been added to Heather's offerings.
On the food side of the menu, croissants are now available, including those with fillings like pistachio, Nutella and almonds.
“Sara has always liked the Parisian style,” Nadalizadeh said. “We make freshly baked croissants every day.”
Take a gander at the front window of the shop and one will find tiered decorative displays of very delicate-looking French pastries. The innovation was Farzin’s idea and she drew upon Parisian cuisine to add a little more flair to Heather’s.
Everything else that made customers fall in love with Heather’s will remain the same. That includes eye candy as well, as monthly art shows will continue to adorn the walls of the shop.
