The billboard has been set up at the intersection of James Snow Parkway and Main Street.

A billboard is now in place to honour the chickens killed in the Hwy. 401 collision in Milton earlier this month.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) placed the memorial at the intersection of James Snow Parkway and Main Street — near the site of the incident, which involved a sedan and transport truck carrying live chickens.

“Every one of the chickens killed in this crash was a thinking, feeling being who died in pain and terror, and the traumatized survivors deserve far better than to have their throats slit and their bodies carved up for meat,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in a statement Wednesday (July 24). “PETA urges everyone to please go vegan and help spare animals a terrifying death in a slaughterhouse or in a cramped transport truck.”

The billboard is situated near several chicken-serving restaurants.

The animal rights organization hopes the billboard will serve as a reminder that the crash victims “were individuals who suffered immensely only because people wanted to eat them.”
