Emma, Sophia and Emily have faced significant trauma. And with grandpa laid off to take care of them and mom just home from rehab, their financial situation is – to say the least – precarious.

It’s for children like these that Halton Learning Foundation exists.

“The challenges facing many families in our community can make it difficult for students to keep up with their peers,” said HLF CEO Marc Clare, whose organization has provided emergency assistance to roughly 1,000 Halton District School Board pupils since the start of September. “No child school feel excluded or miss out on learning opportunities because of financial hardships.”

That mission is at the forefront of the group’s recently-launched ‘No Student Left Behind’ campaign, which aims to ensure all students have warm clothes for the approaching winter, as well as nutritious food and the means for learning opportunities.

In essence, create an environment where every kid can thrive.

Said Clare, “We know that several hundred more students and their families will request support before the holiday break, and we need to be able to continue to say ‘YES’ to every request for emergency assistance we receive with the support of the community.”
