Local shoppers will get a blast from the past in 2023 as The Bay relaunches its Zellers brand at Burlington Centre.
The planned store is one of 25 locations across Canada announced on Jan. 18. Additional Ontario communities targeted for the launch include Mississauga, London, Scarborough, St. Catharines, Cambridge, Ottawa and Kingston.
At launch, the new brick-and-mortar locations will be within existing Hudson's Bay stores. The "Zellers experience" will be 8,000-10,000 square feet, depending on the location.
"Customers will be greeted with a thoughtful selection of design-led products across home decor, toys, baby, apparel and pets, housed within Zellers' signature red and white that will guide customers along in their retail journey," says the company in a press release.
According to The Bay, the physical stores will be complemented by the launch of the first-ever Zellers.ca e-commerce site. The plan is to launch the physical sites and Zellers.ca simultaneously; currently, people can visit online and sign up to receive updates.
A Zellers "pop-up" was added on the second floor of The Bay's Burlington Centre store in the fall of 2021. The installation features the familiar red and white branding, along with a limited selection of toys, housewares and clothing.
The official date for the launch of the new Zellers store and website has not been announced.
