Local residents who are short on parking spaces and using their lawn to fill the gap will have to come up with a new plan, or face a fine.

Following a recent decision to restrict parking on residential landscaping in the Town’s off-street parking bylaw, Halton Hills Council has now approved a $100 fine for parking in this type of “unauthorized area.”

A staff report to council from Manager of Enforcement Services Susie Spry explains the bylaw change aims to “address the influx of vehicles parking on the landscaped area (front and side yard) of a residential property.”

Parking in these areas was previously enforced through the Town’s zoning bylaw, but will now be addressed through the Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) for minor parking bylaw infractions.

Spry’s report says AMPS “operates outside the provincial court system, providing a more efficient resolution process for those wishing to dispute a penalty notice they have received.”
