Actonians look forward to it all year. When it arrives, it does not disappoint.
Hot on the heels of its sister fall fair in Georgetown, Prospect Park will, once again, play host to the Acton Fall Fair. This weekend, local families will get a chance to learn all about how the agriculture industry puts food on tables while having fun.
Gates open to the public on Friday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. The good times continue on Saturday Sept. 16 and Sunday Sept. 17, starting at 8 a.m.
Local band Wicked Truth will be the first musical act on Friday evening, but not before a heavy horse pull - taking place at same time as the band’s appearance at 7 p.m. The Saltwater Cowboys, Brown’s Garage and the Lizard People will then perform throughout the afternoon and evening Saturday.
The Miss Acton competition is set for Friday at 8 p.m. An information session on the contest will take place tomorrow night (Sept. 13), also at 8 p.m., at the Dufferin Rural Heritage Community Centre in Prospect Park.
A horseshoe competition will be held at noon Saturday, followed by a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday. Kids can get in on the action with a colouring contest.
Poultry shows, cattle shows, wildlife and farming demonstrations, along with truck and tractor pulls, will also run throughout the fair weekend.
A free shuttle bus will be available this year, taking those who park at the Acton Legion to the fair on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Children under five get into the fair for free. Admission is $4 for kids aged five to 12. Students who are 13 to 18 - and seniors 65 and up - will be charged $8. All other adults will be charged $10.
The Acton Agricultural Society hosts the festivities. The fair traces its origins back to 1913 when the Town of Acton - as the municipality was known at the time - gathered and conceived of the idea.
