The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating a vacant house fire in rural Acton, with initial estimates placing the “significant” damage at over $500,000.

The Halton Hills Fire Department (HHFD) responded to the call shortly after 10 p.m. last night (Dec. 20) on Dublin Line near 22 Sideroad.

Smoke was visible upon arrival, with firefighters extinguishing the blaze by around 1:30 a.m., said HHFD deputy chief Martin Mills.

“Crews stayed all night to monitor any hot spots and keep fire watch,” said Mills.

“Crews are still on scene working with the Ontario Fire Marshal inspector to determine the cause of the fire.”

While the outside walls of the home are still standing, there’s “significant” fire damage on the inside, noted Mills.

He added that no injuries were reported, and there’s currently nobody living in the house.
