Guelph’s Kristy Miller struck a deal with the dragons on the finale episode of the season of Dragons' Den.
Her business, The Scented Market sells soy based eco-friendly candles out of her flagship store in Guelph, and others in the province. But 75 per cent of her profits come from selling online, she told the dragons in a segment that aired Thursday night.
Miller asked for $250,000 for five per cent of her business.
The dragons were impressed Miller made $2.3 million in sales in 2021 from selling candles.
All the dragons went in and made her offers. The offer she took was $250,000 for 15 per cent of her business, with Arlene Dickinson and Michele Romanow.
The dragons kept asking Miller what her secret sauce is to what makes her so successful.
Miller’s husband left his corporate job of 16 years to come work at the Scented Market as a production manager.
“It’s really hard to not bet on you because we see very few businesses that look like this from a numbers perspective on such a competitive category,” said Romanow on the episode.
This isn’t the first time Miller had auditioned for the show, in 2019 she didn’t make the cut. She auditioned again and made a deal with the dragons in 2022.
"I can't wait to tell my boys when I get home. They're going to be so that happy mommy slayed the dragons," said Miller on the show.
In Halton Hills, The Scented Market products are available at places like Trendos Interiors in Georgetown, Acton Home Hardware and more.
