Georgetown Hospital may have just found its future home.

Halton Healthcare announced this afternoon (Nov. 3) that it has received an "incredibly generous" donation of 105 acres of land on Trafalgar Road appraised at approximately $45 million from the Walker Wood family.

"This spectacular gift creates exciting new possibilities for a new hospital and healthcare facilities in our community," said Georgetown Hospital Foundation Executive Director Sandra Taylor.

“We are moved by this altruistic donation and proud that this land will have a lasting impact on healthcare in this community.”

The family donated the farm that was their home for many years to Halton Healthcare in memory of Neil Cameron Walker Wood, who passed away in 2021.

Walker Wood’s wife, Susan, said, "My husband, Neil, and I have made the Walker Wood Farm in Georgetown our home for over 40 years. The farm has been the centre of our family during that time - a beautiful space where we have created many wonderful memories.

"Neil and I have been incredibly fortunate in our lives and Canada has provided many opportunities to help create our family's success. We have always held a strong belief in giving back to our community and it provides our family immense pleasure to donate this land in memory of my late husband. We are delighted that Halton Healthcare will honour my husband's legacy to advance healthcare for the people in this community for years to come.”

Halton Healthcare President and CEO Melissa Farrell called the gift - the largest ever received by the regional healthcare organization -  "remarkably generous."

“It creates exciting new possibilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of our communities and for the future redevelopment of Georgetown Hospital," she said. "We will engage with all our partners to determine how best to use these lands to deliver the greatest public benefit.”

The acreage is located at 9527 Trafalgar Rd., between 5 and 10 Sideroad.

Mayor Ann Lawlor expressed her enthusiasm over the news, which she described as "a gift that will touch all our residents and future generations."

"I am thrilled to extend my thanks to the Walker Wood family for the incredible gift they have granted to our Town," she said.

"To Halton Healthcare and Georgetown Hospital, this is a remarkable milestone for our community's future healthcare redevelopment. The Walker Wood family makes this incredible donation as a way of giving back to Canada and our community for opportunities leading to their success. What a magnificent honour for Halton Hills."
