Are you a lucky duck?

You might just be if you find one of the Town's little rubber duckies that staff is hiding across the municipality this summer.

These Lucky Ducks, as the Town calls them, have free family swim passes attached to them that can be redeemed at the Gellert Community Centre and the Acton Indoor Pool.

They can be found on trails, in playgrounds, parks and other places.

"They're all strategically placed in pretty high-traffic spots," aquatics recreation supervisor Jaclyn Neill told HaltonHillsToday.

"Each week we've been hiding one duck in Acton and one duck in Georgetown at an outdoor location," added assistant co-ordinator Sarah Magoolagan.

The initiative will run until the week before Labour Day, so there's still plenty of time for families to snatch a pass up. The game is, apparently, a hit with kids as Magoolagan is hounded by youngsters wanting clues about where to find more.

Halton Hills staff say there's been a burgeoning interest in Town-led recreation programs this year. This growth in demand is part of the reason why they decided to stage the duck hunt. They estimate that there have been approximately 1,500 people per week taking part in recreational swims, which is well above pre-pandemic numbers.

"It's been a really busy summer," Neill said. "The community is obviously really excited to leave COVID behind and be able to get back there and get swimming and do normal things."
