Two Halton Hills councillors have their sights set on holding political office at Queen's Park.
Councillor Alex Hilson was confirmed as the local candidate for the Liberal party Saturday by the Wellington-Halton Hills Provincial Liberal Association.
That was followed by Councillor Joseph Racinsky formally announcing Monday that he will seek the Ontario PC Party nomination for the Wellington-Halton Hills riding. Current MPP Ted Arnott will not be running in the next election.
Both Hilson, Ward 2, and Racinsky, Ward 1, were elected to Halton Hills Council for the first time in October 2022.
Prior to being a politician, Hilson served as the Downtown Acton BIA co-ordinator.
“I truly believe we would have stronger communities if we could get more of our residents engaged, to get above petty politics and divisiveness and work together to make the best decisions for our community at large,” Hilson said in accepting the nomination.
While Hilson is a confirmed candidate, Racinsky is one of three men seeking the Ontario PC Party nomination for the riding. The local councillor is going up against Ross McKenzie from Centre Wellington and Fergus resident Kyle Coffey for the position.
“Our communities face many challenges, and I will be a strong advocate for Wellington-Halton Hills at Queen’s Park,” Racinsky said in a press release. “I look forward to visiting and hearing from people across the riding and am ready to effectively represent our community and fight for our shared values.”
