VIDEO: Alpacas from Rockwood ride the GO train to the Royal Winter Fair

Dawson and Pacey from Rockwood's All In Alpacas are this year's Royal Agricultural Winter Fair ambassadors

A pair of Rockwood alpacas got to experience something perhaps no other alpaca has done before - ride the GO train.

These weren’t just regular alpacas going home to the farm, but they are this year’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair ambassadors heading to the annual celebration of all things agriculture in the heart of Toronto.

The ambassadors are Dawson and Pacey from All In Alpacas located on Sixth Line near Rockwood.

Lindsay Stoltz, who co-owns the alpaca farm with her husband Derek, explained in a phone interview it's the international year of the camelid, which is the class of animal alpacas fall into, and Stoltz figured The Royal was interested in having alpaca ambassadors.

“It’s a huge honour to be the ambassadors of The Royal," said Stoltz. "The last year in 2023 was the first year that alpacas had their own show at The Royal."

Being ambassadors for The Royal means a lot of media and promotion for the fair, including Dawson and Pacey taking a trip on a GO Train from Scarborough to Union Station on Wednesday to promote taking transit to the fair held at Exhibition Place.

Stoltz said Dawson and Pacey were surprisingly very good with the train ride.

“Alpacas tend to have more of a nervous, kind of skittish personality, but these guys, I don’t know, they’re kind of just made to be the ambassadors,” Stoltz said. “They’re very calm, they don’t mind the attention.”

Stoltz encouraged people to come out to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, which runs Nov. 1 to Nov. 10 at Exhibition Place in Toronto.

“It’s a great place for education, there’s all kinds of exhibitors here … all kinds of livestock, different shows, it’s basically bringing country to the city,” Stoltz said.
