Tanner Cadwallader doesn’t know what it’s like for the season to end early.
The Christ the King graduate, who made his Canadian Football League debut with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2021, will be playing in his fourth straight Grey Cup today.
Cadwallader won the championship with the Blue Bombers in his rookie season, and will be looking to add a second title when Winnipeg squares off against the Toronto Argonauts in Vancouver.
The Blue Bombers have come close the past two years, losing 24-23 to Toronto in 2022 and 28-24 to Montreal in 2023. That’s a trend Winnipeg hopes to end today.
Cadwallader, who wears No. 47 for Winnipeg, matched his career best with 16 special teams tackles this year.
Over his career, the 27-year-old linebacker has made 54 special-teams tackles and five defensive tackles over 54 regular season games and has added seven special-teams tackles in 11 playoff games, including at least one in each of his previous three Grey Cup games.
After playing university football at Western and Wilfrid Laurier, Cadwallader played a season of football in Italy. He returned to Canada, playing for London of the Canadian Junior Football League and earning league all-star honours. Winnipeg then drafted him in the seventh round (64th overall) of the 2020 CFL draft.
