Cassidy Brooks was named an Ontario University Athletics first-team all-star after leading the Nipissing Lakers in scoring.
The Georgetown District High School grad scored 10 goals to finish fifth in the OUA despite missing three games. She recorded hat tricks in wins over Carleton and Laurentian. The senior striker has 30 career OUA goals.
Brooks added four more goals in three playoff games to help Nipissing reach the OUA final. Her goal sparked a late comeback from a 4-2 deficit in a 6-4 quarterfinal win over Queen’s. She then scored the winning goal in the final minute of Nipissing’s 2-1 semifinal win over York. She had both Laker goals in a 4-2 loss to Ottawa in the final.
Nipissing went on to finish fifth at the national championships.
Georgetown’s Abbie Russell, a second-year defender with the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, also earned a spot on the OUA all-star team. The Christ the King graduate was named to the OUA second team.
“Abbie quickly made an impact on our program, and it's incredible to see her honoured for her efforts on the field," said Ontario Tech head coach Audra Sherman. "She's a physical presence on our backline and improves everyone around her.”
