Art Harris, age 95, of Georgetown, Ontario, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Georgetown Hospital, surrounded by his family holding him and singing his favourite hymn, “On Eagles Wings”. We truly appreciate and are grateful for the support and compassion of Art’s care team at Georgetown Hospital.

Art was a loving husband to his devoted wife Laurie for 54 years, a cherished father to Adrienne Harris (Gord Atkinson), Leslie Harris, and a beloved Grandpa to Jack and Colleen Dean. Art was also a dear uncle to Kathy Baxter and Joanne Price. He will be sadly missed by the McCallum families, Camilla Todesco, and his chosen ‘daughters’, Marie Brennan, Liz Nastasi and Cheri Chevalier as well as his dearest friend's daughter, Teresa Dunnigan. Art will also be fondly remembered by our close family friends, the Walker clan. A special thank you to Veronica White (Art called her Betty). She was Art’s PSW and dear friend for the past 5 years.

Art was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and lived his life with faith and love. He spent a 25 year career at Sheridan College as a counsellor and hockey coach where he touched many lives. Art was known for his passion for sports, particularly hockey and golf. He was very proud to be honoured in the Hockey Hall of Fame as a 1948 Memorial Cup Champion playing for the Port Arthur West End Bruins. Another fun fact is that he was a scratch handicap golfer in his early days and enjoyed many rounds as a long time member at The Club at North Halton. Art enjoyed curating barbeque rubs and fine wines, cottaging on Lake Nipigon, hunting and fishing with his friends, creating woodworking masterpieces for his family, as well as wintering and golfing in Florida (and the odd ‘happy hour’!).

A Mass will be held in memory of Art on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 14400 Argyll Road, Georgetown, with a luncheon reception to follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Townsend Smith Hospice Foundation or Cancer Assistance Halton Hills would be greatly appreciated.
