October 26, 1940  -  November 18, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Lenz peacefully at the age of 83 in London, Ontario. He is survived by his loving wife, June, with whom he shared a wonderful marriage of 59 years but a relationship which began in the third grade. He was the devoted father of Andy (Radka) and Cathy (Tom) and grandfather of John (Sara), Alex, Sarah (Cade) and Tim (Crystal). He was also the proud great-grandfather of Camden, Kyenna, Mara and Henry. He is survived by his brother, Ray (Theresa) and predeceased by sister Lenie (Bruce) and brother Richard (Heather). He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephew as well as his family in Austria.

John was born in Bowmanville to John Sr. and Greta but moved as a child to Georgetown where he spent most of his life. He graduated from GDHS and transitioned from the military into education. His career in the classroom was relatively short, but he spent many years in administration, particularly as a cherished elementary school principal in the Milton area. Following his retirement, John continued to be active in his community, and was committed to the establishment of the Gallery Apartment Tower in Georgetown.

He was dedicated to his family, numerous special friends, his students and would help anyone in need. He loved fishing, travelling (especially cruising), reading, soup and watching car-racing on television. We will fondly remember our time with him at the Leslie’s cottage where he patiently removed sunfish after sunfish for whichever child happened to be in the boat with him at the time.

There will be a visitation at Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, Ontario on Thursday November 30th from 2-5 pm. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, December 1st at 11 am with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you consider making a donation to a charity which assists children in need.

The family would like to thank the devoted staff of London Health Sciences Centre who were kind and helpful in his latter stages of life.
