We are devastated to announce the quick decline and sudden passing of our loving father, husband and Dedo, Andrija Maltar, on December 19, 2024 at the age of 76.

Andrija was born on November 9, 1948 in Kotoriba, MEÐIMURJE, Croatia to parents Ivan Maltar and Juljiana Fundak and was the youngest of seven siblings. He leaves behind his older sister, Ilka Baksa in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and joins his other siblings in heaven, Katarina “Kata”, Štefanija “Štefa”, Drago “Charlie”, Franciska “Fana”, and Ðuro “George”, likely enjoying a competitive game of bocce ball. As a youth, he attended trade school to learn plumbing in Slovenia where he loved living and working until he joined his siblings in Canada in the early 1970s.

On his journey to Canada, he brought with him a gift he was asked to deliver to Ružica Hegediš. That meeting led to a 52-year marriage and five children, Susan, Steven (Andrea), Michael (Julie), and twins, Melissa (Bryce) and Michelle (Dennis) whom he was very protective and proud of. He was a devoted grandfather to Ivan, Anna, Andrew, Evan, Stella, Lennon, Ante, and Josip. Also left grieving are many nieces and nephews. Andrija worked hard providing for his large family as a painter and drywall finisher until his body didn’t let him. His last years were spent helping care for all of his grandchildren, fishing, boating on “The Duke”, and enjoying his brandy and coke on the porch overlooking the lake.

He was fiercely independent despite his physical limitations and poor health up until his last conscious day. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Rest in peace, Drašo.

The family will receive friends and family at Jones Funeral Home 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm. Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Croatian Roman Catholic Church, 2110 Trafalgar Road, Oakville on Monday, December 23 at 10:00am. Interment at Devereaux Cemetery 12337 17th Side Road, Halton Hills. As an expression of sympathy donations to Holy Trinity Croatian Roman Catholic Church would be appreciated by the family.

Croatian prayer:

Molimo, Gospodine, da se radi

svoga milosrđa smiluješ duše

svoga službenika Andrije I koji se

riješio baštinje umrlosti, učini da

bude dionik vječnoga spasenja.

Amen

Pokoj vječni daruj mu Gospodine

I svjetlost vječna neka mu svjetli.
