A man has been charged with arson following two incidents early Thursday morning.
Halton Police say around 3:30 a.m. (Nov. 28), a man allegedly broke into a home on 17 Sideroad through an unlocked garage door and started a small fire in the garage. Police say the man then entered the home, waking up the resident. He left after being confronted by the resident. There were no injuries, no weapons were seen and nothing was stolen.
The resident called the police after the accused left.
About an hour later, at 4:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a fire at Georgetown Market Place. Police say the accused removed a large commercial garbage bag and lit it on fire on the concrete sidewalk.
According to police, the suspect from both incidents was located at approximately 8 a.m. At the time of his arrest, the accused was in possession of a stolen bike.
A 37-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with arson–damage to property, mischief under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, break and enter and failure to comply with a probation order.
The charges have not been tested in court.
