Halton Regional Police have arrested a man and laid multiple charges in a human trafficking investigation.
Police say the investigation started in June, and as a result they developed grounds to arrest 29-year-old Andre Davis of Etobicoke yesterday (Aug. 18).
According to police, a search warrant was executed at a unit in a large apartment complex in Etobicoke where Davis, also known as “Dre” or “Dre Stax,” was bound by court orders to reside. However, police say upon arrival, Davis was not located.
"Soon after, Toronto Police were alerted to a male running from the area," states a press release from Halton Police. "Swift response by Toronto Police resulted in the arrest of Davis away from this location."
A secondary apartment connected to Davis was identified during the incident, which was later searched pursuant to a warrant by Halton Police investigators. Police say evidence was secured that will assist in furthering the human trafficking investigation.
“This investigation is another example of our Human Trafficking Unit's commitment to reducing trafficking networks and facilitating safety among victims and survivors. This is achieved with the collaboration of our police partners and non-government agencies," said Deputy Chief Jeff Hill. "The Halton Regional Police will be relentless in our pursuit to apprehend those who perpetuate this heinous crime.”
