The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) and its members are remembering former Police Chief James (Jim) Harding, who died on Thursday.
Chief Harding was hired by the HRPS in 1979 and remained with the service until retiring in 1994.
In a statement, the HRPS called him "a pioneer leader whose contributions shaped our service and the policing profession."
"We will miss him greatly. Our hearts and thoughts are with the Harding family."
