A constable with Halton Regional Police has been suspended and charged with careless use of a firearm.

The charge follows an internal investigation and stems from an incident that occurred on Jan. 29 in Burlington.

Police say Constable Jordan Lee, who has been with the service for six years, was handling a police-issued firearm during the course of his duties when the weapon was accidentally discharged. No one was injured.

An investigation was conducted by members of Regional Investigative Services who police say, by mandate, investigate all events where a service member discharges a firearm during the performance of their duty, intentionally or unintentionally.

"Constable Lee has been suspended with pay, as per the Police Services Act of Ontario," police said in a press release.

He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Milton on April 3.
