A lengthy drug trafficking investigation has led to two arrests and the seizure of approximately $1,000,000 in narcotics.
The Halton Regional Police Service - Drug and Human Trafficking Unit executed search warrants in Milton and Mississauga during Project Guild on March 29 and 30.
Investigators seized the following:
• 15 kg of cocaine
• 1.1 kg of fentanyl
• 1 kg of ketamine
• 0.5 kg of MDMA (ecstasy)
• 285 grams of heroin.
“Bulk quantities of illicit drugs are routinely supplemented with toxic substances, which can cause significant harm to the unsuspecting end user,” said Inspector Dave Costantini, Regional Investigative Services.
“Considering the street sale profits derived from this seizure, the wholesale value of $1,000,000 grows exponentially. The individuals involved in organized crime do not care about the risk they pose to public safety, they care about stuffing their own pockets.”
Abdullah-Akhound Khawaja, 29, of Milton, has been charged with:
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine, ketamine and MDMA/ecstasy - five counts)
• Trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine).
Francisco Mejia-Chavarria, 27, of Edmonton has been charged with:
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl and heroin - two counts).
Both suspects were held pending a bail hearing.
Arrest warrants were issued for two other individuals believed to be involved in the investigation.
Kevin Nguyen, 26, of Mississauga, is wanted on charges of:
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl, heroin and cocaine - six counts)
• Dangerous driving
• Fail to comply with a release order.
Tran Larissa Vu, 26, of Mississauga is wanted on the charge of failing to comply with a release order.
“The Halton Regional Police Service and its members remain committed to holding individuals that distribute illicit substances accountable,” said Deputy Chief Jeff Hill.
“The amount of cocaine and opioids seized in this investigation poses a real danger to the Halton Region and surrounding communities. We will continue vigorously investigating those illegally distributing dangerous substances.”
