The Georgetown Hospital Foundation is set to host its highly anticipated annual Gala, “A Night of Golden Entertainment,” on Nov. 2 at Lionhead Golf and Conference Centre. This year’s gala, themed “24K,” promises an evening of glamour and generosity, with the goal of raising $282,000 to support Georgetown Hospital.
Sandra Taylor, Executive Director of the Georgetown Hospital Foundation, shared her excitement about the event's growth.
"Every year, it just gets bigger and better. The community really comes out to support it, and it's a great way to raise essential funds while having a good time."
Fundraising goal and focus
This year's fundraising efforts are focused on replacing outdated stretchers at the hospital, some of which are over 30 years old. Each stretcher costs approximately $8,000, and the goal is to replace as many as possible out of the 27 that need upgrading.
“Stretchers are the unsung heroes of the hospital. The new technology will make them more comfortable for patients and easier for caregivers to maneuver,” said Taylor.
Last year’s event was a record-setting success, raising nearly $250,000 for essential equipment, including a new operating table and three vital signs monitors. The 2024 Gala aims to build on this success, ensuring that Georgetown Hospital can continue providing exemplary care close to home.
Evening agenda and entertainment
The evening will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with doors opening and a cocktail hour featuring signature drinks and live music from The SentiMentals. Dinner and formal programming will begin at 7 p.m., followed by a lively after-party with DJ Anthony starting at 10 p.m.
A highlight of the evening will be the return of Rod Black, a well-known sports broadcaster, as the event’s emcee. Rod is famous for his infectious energy and one-of-a-kind storytelling that kept last year’s audience laughing throughout the night.
Additionally, the gala’s live auction and Fund-A-Need segments will be led by Layne, "The Auctionista," who brings unmatched enthusiasm and entertainment to fundraising. Layne’s work with the Georgetown Hospital Foundation spans over a decade, and their efforts have helped raise millions for charities across North America.
Community support and sponsorship
The gala’s success depends on the support of sponsors and community members. This year, Castle Building Centres has come on board as the presenting sponsor.
Taylor emphasized, “We are fortunate to have great community support from our sponsors. Their contributions help defray event expenses, allowing more of the funds raised to go directly back to the hospital.”
For those unable to attend, there are still ways to get involved. A silent auction will be held online starting Oct. 28 and will remain open until 9:00 p.m. on Nov. 2. Donations can also be made directly to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation through their website, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the hospital’s ongoing needs.
Why attend?
The Georgetown Hospital Foundation Gala is not just a fundraising event; it’s a night of heartfelt connection and community spirit. With nearly 300 attendees expected, the evening combines philanthropy with lively entertainment, ensuring everyone has a good time while supporting a great cause.
“It's amazing to see how generous people can be when they come together for a good cause,” said Taylor. “The combination of entertainment and support for the hospital creates a special evening that everyone looks forward to.”
