Good news for Halton Hills residents requiring transportation to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).
The Town has permanently extended the ActiVan shuttle service to the hospital in south Halton, effective April 1 - a measure included in the 2023 budget.
The shuttle service was first piloted in November 2021 and later extended through 2022. It supports ActiVan riders requiring access to hospital programs and services, including students enrolled in the Halton District School Board’s Project SEARCH, a school-to-work training program for students with disabilities.
“As municipal leaders I believe we have a responsibility to support our residents and particularly those who are most vulnerable,” said Mayor Ann Lawlor. “Providing access to necessary programs and health care in Halton Region and bridging the north-south gap by providing transit opportunities for specialized transit users is one way we can do this.”
The extension of the ActiVan shuttle service to OTMH resulted from consultation with Halton Healthcare and Ontario Health to better accommodate dialysis transportation and provide greater options for users travelling to OTMH.
Starting April 1, the ActiVan will arrive and depart Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Over 1,200 trips were provided to OTMH by the ActiVan shuttle service in 2022.
The ActiVan is a specialized transportation service intended for seniors ages 65 and older, and people with disabilities.
Registered ActiVan users can request door-to-door transportation to OTMH, a minimum of 24 hours prior to travel. For more information or to book a trip, visit the Town’s website. Rides can also be booked over the phone at 905-702-6435.
