Last year's Coldest Night of the Year Walk in Georgetown.

Plans are well underway for this year’s edition of the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser walk in Halton Hills.

The event, which has a goal of raising $40,000 to benefit Links2Care and the Georgetown Bread Basket, is set to take place on Feb. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m., starting and ending at Norval United Church. Participants can choose from either a two-km or five-km route.

The Rotary Club of Acton is hosting a second route in Acton for those who prefer to walk closer to home in that community (timing/route to be confirmed soon), or participants are also welcome to complete their efforts offsite with their own favourite route.

This year’s theme is Gathering Together for Good, and representatives from Links2Care and the Bread Basket say they’re pooling their efforts and resources to maximize the impact of the walk in the face of growing need in the community.

Money raised at the event will be shared between the two charitable organizations to support local residents struggling with hunger, housing and health issues.

So far, over 100 participants and 34 teams have registered, with 19 people signed up to volunteer.

Across the country, Coldest Night of the Year events have raised over $57 million to date in support of local charities.
