The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH) is pleased to announce exciting changes to its Board of Directors, marking a projected evolution in the organization’s leadership as it approaches its 50th anniversary.
Andrew Tyrrell, who has served CCAH with dedication and distinction for five years, has transitioned from President to the role of Past President. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in advancing the CCAH mission. It was part of Mr. Tyrrell’s plan to establish significant growth and a stable foundation for the organization to be poised for greater community impact beyond the era that was initiated by the late Veronica Tyrrell. The Board of Directors and CCAH staff are now thankful to have Andrew as Chair of the Ex-Officio Board, alongside other past presidents and board members. The Ex-Officio Board will serve as active mentors and advisors to the current and future Board of Directors and CCAH staff as the organization continues to soar to new heights.
“For the past five years, I have been building upon the foundation that CCAH has had in the community for the past 30 years under the leadership of Veronica until her passing in 2018. My personal and professional goals for CCAH have been met and I am excited to transition into a mentorship role as the organization heads towards celebrating 50 years of community service.” – Andrew Tyrrell, Past President.
Sheldon Williams, previously Vice President of five years, has assumed the role of President. Sheldon has been an integral part of the CCAH of over a decade serving as a board member alongside both Veronica Tyrrell and Andrew Tyrrell, bringing extensive experience and a deep understanding of community needs. Sheldon is also the co-founder and past President of the Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals and is an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion.
“It has been an honour to have worked alongside such advocates for diversity and inclusion in Halton. I have appreciated the mentorship of both Veronica and Andrew, and I am committed to delivering the next phase of growth as President.” – Sheldon Williams, President.
Richard Pinnock, with 17 years involved with the CCAH organization, will step into the role of Vice-President. Richard has served alongside both Veronica Tyrrell and Andrew Tyrrell. Richard’s passion for youth leadership development has been a cornerstone of CCAH’s success in developing future leaders.
“Seeing the expansion of CCAH from working closely with Veronica Tyrrell for 12 years, through to Andrew Tyrrell’s recent five years as President has been amazing.” – Richard Pinnock, Vice-President
Katherine Dottin-Adams, who served as Treasurer has retired from her position after serving 13 years in the role. The Board of Directors extends their thanks and sincere appreciation to Katherine for her commitment to CCAH and her unwavering support in implementing digital financial and audit functions as the organization went through its recent growth trajectory.
The Board is also pleased to welcome Horace Saunders as the newest Board member. Horace will be assuming the role of Treasurer. Horace is an experienced financial services executive having held senior responsibilities at the COO levels at organizations such as Walmart, Duo Bank and Fairstone Bank. Horace’s fresh perspectives and enthusiasm are expected to contribute significantly to the Board’s efforts.
These leadership changes are part of CCAH’s multi-year plan and come as CCAH is on the road to celebrating 50 years of service to the Halton community. As part of the long-term vision, CCAH is also in the recruitment phase of their first Executive Director. CCAH remains committed to promoting diversity, empowering Halton’s Black community and fostering cultural awareness, understanding and inclusion.
